A delegation of 14 faculty members and students from the Faculty of Agriculture at Japan’s National Tottori University visited the Department of Biotechnology at Ming Chuan University from August 26 to 27, engaging in a two-day international collaborative learning and academic exchange program. The delegation was led by Professor Jiro ARIMA and Associate Professor Yukinori YABUTA, with activities including off-campus visits and on-campus seminars to deepen interaction and cooperation between the two institutions in the field of biotechnology.

On the first day of the exchange (August 26), Lin, Han-Trou, Chair of MCU’s Department of Biotechnology, personally led faculty and students from both universities to Yilan to visit the Academia Sinica Coastal Research Station. The group was received and guided by Research Fellow Yu Chih‑Kai, who introduced the latest research achievements in marine biology, highlighting Taiwan’s strengths and distinctive features in marine scientific research. In the afternoon, the delegation visited a renowned whisky distillery, gaining industry-oriented insights into the application of biotechnology in food science and fermentation.

On the second day (August 27), activities returned to the Ming Chuan campus. Students from both universities first participated together in an Italian gelato-making experience to strengthen friendships, followed by a student symposium featuring project presentations and discussion sessions. The event showcased students’ engagement with and critical thinking on international biotechnology issues.

Chair Lin, Han-Trou noted, “Since 2019, under the introduction of Professor Lin Chang‑Ho from the Department of Applied Japanese, Ming Chuan University and Tottori University have conducted mutual visits. Although exchanges were temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, frequent interactions have resumed since 2024. International visits not only promote global collaboration but also allow students to personally experience the international nature of biotechnology, inspiring them to pursue overseas learning opportunities and enhance their future competitiveness.”

This visit further strengthened the friendship between the two universities and laid a solid foundation for future collaboration, symbolizing Ming Chuan University’s continued progress in cultivating biotechnology professionals with global perspectives and strong professional expertise.
